Yeah, here's a somewhat unpleasant idea for what post-singularity uploaded-consciousness will be like.

[moment of silence]

[edited to change userpic to something that doesn't imply an immediate local death rather than a moment of silence for memorial day.]

"Spoiler", a short film about life after the zombie apocalypse, when things have gone back to mostly-normal.

I could totally see this as the basis for a sort of horror-meets-police/medical-procedural.

WFNX, which has been mostly doing a good job of being independent radio in Boston[1] since 1983, is being sold to Clear Channel. I've been listening to them off and on since they started, and they've been my go-to radio station for every boston-area vehicle I've had that included a radio. Even when I was living in Seattle, when I had a way to listen to them streaming (back before radio stations were doing streaming), I was listening to them sometimes.

[1] modulo the few years they sucked when they had some program director they got from WAAF and were full of angry grungey buttrock snarly dickwaving music around 2001. I stopped listening regularly and then was happily surprised when they started not sucking again.

TODAY, IN NOTABLE ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

I failed at Never-Fail Fudge.

I now have a batch of fudge with a slightly weird texture and some small sugar candy chunks in it.

Hopefully they won't throw me out of Somerville at the next "What the Fluff" festival.

note to self: yes, the evaporated milk goes in with the initial batch of ingredients

So, sometimes at work, I listen to music online - often dubstep, or other electronic music. But lately, sometimes, when I want all the major chord goodness and no (or nearly no) lyrics, I go for MOVIE SOUNDTRACKS. I'm slowly training a pandora station.

Amusingly, pandora has the soundtrack to one of the lotr movies in a german edition, so it's "Der Herr der Ringe", as opposed to the others, which are just plain old "The Lord of the Rings."
28th-Apr-2012 12:59 pm - Free Tea! (frea tee?)

I'm purging my tea shelf - anyone want some free tea? It's mostly black tea, with a bit of herbal, some flavored teas (a smidge of earl grey, some ginger lemon tea, etc). Probably between .5kg and 1kg of tea at a guess. It's all several years old at least. One box is tea I bought at FabIndia when I was in Delhi, so that's like 5 or 6 years ago at this point.
26th-Apr-2012 11:50 am - cabin in the woods

[info]clauclauclaudia and I caught a showing of "Cabin in the Woods" the other night.

I loved it. It's much more of a throwback to "Evil Dead" by way of "Scream" than, say, modern 'torture porn' movies like "Saw" and "Hostel." Also, it has Bradley Whitford being amusing. It was stuffed with more pop culture references and horror movie homages than I could count. And it has the funniest elevator-related humor in a scary movie since "Aliens". Actually, even funnier. Because there was more of it.

In other news:
Proof Canadian currency is awesome: Glow in the dark quarters. Also, further proof that Canadian currency is awesome: God Save Jabba the Hutt.

I'm used to the problem of buying a whole bunch of socks, and then they all start to get holes around the same time because they're all about the same age. I'm not used to thinking of this happening with sheets, too, but both sets of the sheets I bought at the same time a bunch of years ago have started to fall apart.
